Governor's Office Criminal Justice Division
The Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office provides more than $100 million in grant dollars to help Texans working to make our state safer by preventing crime, substance abuse and underage drinking. CJD funding is from a variety of sources and for a variety of purposes, but it is all administered with same goal in mind — to encourage programs that make Texas a better and safer place.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Texas State Office
MADD's Texas State Office offers statewide statistics, a legislative update and a list of Texas chapters.
Peer Assistance and Leadership
Peer Assistance and Leadership is an award winning, non-profit program providing effective training in resiliency strategies. The PAL program combats problems such as violence in schools, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, gang participation and school dropouts by providing a critical line of defense both at school and in the home through building peer helping programs all over Texas.
Texans Standing Tall
As one of 12 coalitions that comprise Reducing Underage Drinking: Youth and Adults United for Change, Texans Standing Tall is dedicated to bringing youth and adults together to address environmental policies impacting underage drinking. Membership includes representatives from the education field, alcohol and drug use prevention agencies, advocacy groups, service and faith organizations, youth leadership groups, business and law enforcement.
Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission
TABC's Internet site provides information on underage drinking laws, enforcement efforts and special programs supported by the agency, including Shattered Dreams and Project SAVE. TABC also supports regional, district and outpost offices across the state.
Department of State Health Services
The Department of State Health Services Adolescent Health Program maintains a comprehensive and holistic view of adolescent's health and well-being. The Adolescent Health Program provides information on adolescent health through consultation, technical assistance and educational presentations to agencies (local and state, public and private). The program also responds to inquiries concerning adolescent health services from medical professionals, legislators, other agencies and the public.
Texas Health and Human Services Commission
The mission of the Texas Department of Human Services is to provide financial, health and human services that promote the greatest possible independence and personal responsibility for all clients.
Texas Department of Insurance
The Department of Insurance regulates the Texas insurance industry firmly, fairly, effectively and efficiently. TDI works to educate the public about insurance so that Texans can make informed choices. As part of this process, TDI's consumer protection staff members make presentations to youth groups about driving and insurance.
Texas Education Agency
The Texas Education Agency provides school districts with the information and resources to create and implement local safe school policies. The TEA Internet site includes the Creating Safe and Drug-Free Schools Guide and links to other resources for school leaders.
Texas Youth Commission
The Youth Commission's World of Prevention provides a directory of programs, research, references and resources dedicated to the prevention of child and adolescent problems and the promotion of youth development in families, schools and communities.
