TCADA launches statewide underage drinking campaign
TCADA is launching a statewide billboard campaign and a series of public awareness events in April in an effort to prevent underage drinking. "Virtually every county in Texas will be touched by this campaign,” said TCADA Executive Director Jay Kimbrough. “It was important to us that we reach as many people as possible because underage drinking is so widespread.” To help kickoff the campaign, TCADA honored Sen. Royce West and a group of Texas teens with Community Champion Awards for their work on this issue. View video.

Student alcohol, drug use declines
Alcohol and drug use is declining among Texas students, according to a survey released Monday by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Some of the most dramatic decreases were seen in tobacco use. The percentage of students reporting they had used tobacco in the month before the survey fell 15 percent between 1998 and 2000. Among lower grades, the decrease was even greater.
